General Studies

PROJECTABSTRACTYEAR
Downtown Burlington Employee Transportation Survey Report:
Burlington
The Burlington Business Association (BBA) is exploring the feasibility of creating a Downtown Transportation Management Association (Downtown TMA). BBA collaborated with the Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO), Campus Area Transportation Management Association (CATMA) and the City of Burlington to launch the first on-line Downtown Employee Transportation Survey on October 23, 2007. The survey was designed to gauge the current transportation and parking needs of downtown employees.2008

Richmond Village Parking Study: Final Report:
Richmond
This report presents an analysis of parking needs within the village of Richmond, VT. It identifies deficiencies and recommends strategies to manage the existing supply more efficiently and presents alternatives for adding new parking spaces. The study was funded by the Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO) at the request of the Town of Richmond. The study includes an inventory of the existing parking supply, data collection to determine the number and duration of parked cars during peak periods, and a comparison of existing demand to national data sources.2007

Downtown Burlington Parking Study ~ Final Report:
Burlington
This study was conducted by Wilbur Smith Associates (WSA) for the City of Burlington?s Public Works Department and was funded with support from the Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization. It evaluates existing and future parking supply and demand for non-residential land use within the City of Burlington?s downtown area.2003

Burlington Waterfront Parking, Pedestrian, & Circulation Study: Final Report:
Burlington
The purpose of this project is to understand the parking and circulation issues arising from the cumulative development proposals for the Waterfront. For the purposes of this analysis, Burlington's "Waterfront" extends along both sides of Lake Street from Main Street on the south to the Moran Plant to the north. Over the next 5-10 years, significant public and private investment is expected to take place in this area. Enough is known about the amount and types of this investment that a reasonable "build out" description can be developed.2001

Burlington International Airport Parking Alternatives Study:
In order to maintain a competitive position, BIA must continue to offer an adequate parking supply. At the same time, the airport must respond to environmental and traffic concerns and offer economic development opportunities where possible. The Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO) was requested by the Airport and the City of Burlington to perform a study of airport parking issues and to develop a range of alternative concepts for future accessibility to the airport.1999

Burlington Multimodal Transportation Center:
Burlington
The consultant was commissioned to study the feasibility of a waterfront transportation center/mixed-use joint development project. The purpose of this study was to identify and evaluate potential sites for the facility, and to make final recommendations regarding the prefered site, the overall feasibility of the project, the potential costs and funding sources for the project, and implementation strategies.1998

Outdoor Lighting Manual For Vermont Municipalities:
This manual was created to assist communities interested in managing outdoor lighting, improving lighting designs, conserving energy, and preserving the night landscape and sky.1996

Burlington Waterfront Infrastructure Study:
Burlington
This study is prepared to provide technical supporting data for conceptual infrastructure improvements (i.e. water sewer, storm drainage, roadways, utlilities, parking) for the downtown Burlington Waterfront. This study supercedes the infrastructure study prepared in 1988. This study has evaluated the existing infrastructure and determined what improvements are necessary to meet the needs of the project. A phasing plan is proposed that will utilize the city planned infrastructure upgrades and a public/private partnership to help apportion costs for the proposed developments.1993

Increasing Multimodal Travel in Downtown Burlington:
Burlington
The original purpose of this project was to study the feasibility of a comprehensive transportation center in the vicinity of the proposed Champlain Park Way terminus in downtown Burlington. Components considered for the transportation center include: 1. intercity, interstate, and intracity bus, 2. passenger rail station, 3. light rail station, 4. taxi dispatch terminal, 5. ferry transportation, 6. bicycle storage facilities, 7. travel information, 8. parking facilities, and 9. pedestrian access. Events since that time have led to a slightly different focus for this project, including: A. adoption of the Burlington Municipal Development Plan, B. enactment of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA), and C. initiation of a larger study focused on planning for the waterfront area including planning for a transportation center.1993

Downtown Parking Study ~ Burlington, Vermont:
Burlington
The City of Burlington commissioned this study to address several issues affecting the downtown area parking; Residential permit programs, assurace of convenient, adequate short-term parking for customers ensuring the downtown area's continued vitality, and implications of alternative parking management strategies for regional congestion management. Parking is generally the most expensive, and sometimes most time-consuming, portion of a trip to the downtown area, and therefore offers some opportunities to encourage travel demand management strategies such as ridesharing, transit use, and other alternatives. Also in this study, an update of the parking inventory is presented, and the adequacy and operations of short term, long term, handicapped and truck loading spaces in the CBD are evaluated.1993

Colchester, Essex, & Burlington Parking and Ride Share Studies ~ 1993 Project 4:
Colchester / Essex / Burlington
This document covers five Park & Ride topics for Chittenden County; 1. Town of Colchester - Park & Ride Lots, 2. Town of Essex - Park & Ride Lots, 3. Town of Essex - Use of Existing Lots for Ridesharers to Burlington, 4. Van Purchase Demonstration Project - Feasibility Study, 5. Regional Intermodal Park & Ride Strategy. Each of these concepts, if implemented and vigorously pursued, would reduce the number of vehicle trips. Each concept requires various amounts of initial public funding as well as ongoing management and maintenance costs. Since the underlying goal is to effect change in commuting style of as large a percentage of the population as possible, efforts should be proportionately focused on those programs which can affect the largest numbers of commuters on a permanent basis.1993

Chittenden County Survey of Municipal Parking Standards: Second Edition:
In September of 1987, Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission issued a report which contained a survey of municipal parking standards for Chittenden County communities. The first part of this report is a 1992 revised edition of these parking ordinances. The second part of this report involves the issues of; 1. Landscaping of off-street parking lots and, 2. Employer-paid parking.1992

Essex Junction Village Center Area Parking Study:
Essex Junction
Objectives of this study was to; 1. Assess the nature of the "Parking Problem" in the Village Center area and determine the demand for parking, 2. To inventory the actual supply of parking in the area, 3. To develop recommendations for overcoming any parking deficits and remedy other facets of the "Parking Problem".1989

Chittenden County Park & Ride Lots Prioritization: Final Report:
This report updates a 1999 Park and Ride study that grew from a 1993 report by Hamlin Engineers which identified twenty potential locations for new Park and Ride lots in Chittenden County. The purpose of this report is to prioritize an expanded list of twentyseven locations, recommend strategies to implement priority sites, select specific facility locations for project development (scoping), and identify other ways to expand the region?s Park and Ride network by combining these facilities with other transportation projects.2004

Chittenden County Park and Ride Lots Prioritization: Interim Report:
A 1993 study by Hamlin Engineers identified twenty potential locations for new Park and Ride lots in Chittenden County, which also identified the need to update the County?s existing Park and Ride lots. Specific sites were identified within the Circumferential Highway corridor in Essex and Colchester as well as general locations throughout the County. The purpose of this interim report is to prioritize these twenty-two locations for use by the Vermont Agency of Transportation and as a first step in developing an action plan for Chittenden County.1999
